It was such a rewarding experience to be associated with people doing work to help families.  It's a real thrill to see a great professional presenter at work, and you are truly marvelous. Also, for an hour after class yesterday I briefed a friend (going through a divorce) on the course contents who found them wonderfully practical. Thanks, and hope to stay in touch."

"Children in the Middle is one of the most important prevention programs I have experienced.  It has clearly shown me how profoundly affected children are who get caught in the crossfire of parental conflict.  As an Addiction Specialist I regularly see the effects of family experiences on the behaviors of young people and adults.  This is truly a crucial and important topic!  Mimi Lupin uses her personal experience and professional understanding to make this training more of a passion than just a thought process.  I am grateful that I attended this incredibly useful program training!"
Steve Allison, ARP/Phoenix Prevention Coordinator, ARP/Phoenix Prevention Center, Asheville, NC.

Mimi, I thought that your training was excellent and that a great deal of the information was new and needed by our attendees. I think that they had a very productive learning experience and walked away with hands knowledge that they could utilize immediately. Great job, your personal commitment is very there.
Barry Hantman, Program Manager, Dept. of Human Services, Office of Prevention and Training, Trenton, N.J.

"My wife and I have been providing a parent education program for our local district court for about 18 years. During that time, we made modifications of our program bsed on our experiences, continuing education programs and our readings. We found the program, "Children in the Middle" and felt that this program would compliment our approach. As a result we attended Mimi Lupin's workshop on "Children in the Middle". This program was presented in a professional, personable manner. The program fully met our needs in preparing us to implement, "Children in the Middle". We highly recommend this workshop."

Families in transition call for courageous, caring parents

Children in the Middle is a video-based parent education program that makes parents aware of the most serious ways they put their children in the middle of their own conflicts during and after divorce. More importantly, parents are taught new skills to help them through this difficult transition.

The format of this six hour training program is video vignettes with small group discussion and experiential exercises so that leaders and parents will begin to understand the extent to which children feel the effects of their parents divorce and give parents the necessary information and skills to protect their children during this stressful time. This skills - based program is often mandated by family courts for divorcing parents. This model is designed to give leaders a workshop model so that these skills can be taught to divorcing parents in a group setting and deepen the emotional experience of the video program. This training will enhance the counselor’s skills and confidence in working with parents in a one to one counseling setting whether parents are divorcing or merely in a family therapy session. This program is important no matter how long ago the divorce has taken place and is very helpful in step family situations. Part of the day’s training is designed to work with children themselves to help alleviate the pain and anxiety of their parent’s divorce. Reduction of children's pain can help improve attention span and grades, raise test scores, improve behavior, reduce anxiety, lessen depression and  the possibility of drug and alcohol problems as well as long term relationship problems.

Children in the Middle was developed by Dr. Jack Arbothnot and Dr. Don Gordon professors at Ohio University, and is based on their extensive research. These research results have been presented at both national and international conferences. It has received accolades from parents, judges, psychologists, and attorneys for its practical help during this stressful period. It is currently being used in courts and counseling clinics nationwide. Children in the Middle is a SAMHSA model program and as such qualifies for federal grant monies. Counselors may request a free preview kit of CIM. See contact information below.

What makes this program unique:

  • Addresses the five most common situations in which children feel caught in the middle and proposes solutions.

  • Teaches parents specific concrete skills.

  • Increases awareness of children’s feelings and their point of view.

  • Emphasizes children’s mental health.

  • Based on University research and is a SAMHSA model program.

  • Stimulating small group discussion based on video segments.

Participants will learn:

  • The skills for parents to communicate without being drawn into arguments.

  • How five major issues affect a child’s self esteem and long term recovery.

  • How parents can become more aware of their child’s thoughts and feelings.

  • Concrete exercises to help children through the grief process

  • Ways that parents can stay connected to their children during this traumatic time.

This six-hour divorce recovery training can be brought to your location for $1800 for the day’s training which includes expenses but not optional booklets for participants. This fee includes training for up to 50 participants and would be appropriate for leaders of court mandated classes, for school counselors , counselors in psychiatric hospitals  or for those counselors and therapists from agencies working with families. I attended a workshop for Children in the Middle with Mimi Lupin and was excited by what it had to offer.  I had been looking for something that could make a difference for families going through the ravages of divorce. "Children in the Middle" proved to be the answer.  I shared the materials and what I learned from Mimi with the court system in our county.  "Children in the Middle" will soon be offered here!  thank you Mimi for providing such a wonderful and needed workshop.
